The handmade decanter distinguishes by its elegant and complex design. Designed with the historic RIEDEL lettering in the centre of the carafe, the decanter is created in homage to sixth-generation Josef RIEDEL Senior, also known as the "Glass King of the Jizera Mountains'. It was under Josef's aegis, when RIEDEL glassworks was based in Bohemia, that the company developed into one of the largest and most successful in Europe at that time. In explanation of Josef RIEDEL's significance, 11th generation CEO Maximilian RIEDEL comments on his outstanding achievements "Josef was awarded the "Grand Prix' at the World Exposition in Vienna in 1873, Emperor Franz Josef I presented him with the "Knights Cross', the Pope awarded him the "Sylvestrine Order' and he was made an honorary citizen of the towns of Franzensbad and Wiesenthal.' Like all decanters designed by RIEDEL, the "RIEDEL' decanter is hand-formed and mouth blown by glassblowers in RIEDEL's factory in Tyrol.
The historic RIEDEL lettering design, inspired by the Art Nouveau movement, was used by RIEDEL in Bohemia as the signet for all its products between 1890 and 1925. It was then reintroduced in 1996 on the occasion of RIEDEL's 240th anniversary celebrating all of RIEDEL's hand-finished and freely mouth-blown products. The "RIEDEL' decanter showcases these product features with one small minor detail - thanks to its slim form, the RIEDEL decanter fits perfectly into any refrigerator door. A " ¾must-have" for wine connoisseurs and a collector's item for all RIEDEL fans. RIEDEL tip: use bottle cleaners to remove stains inside the decanter.
