Raynaud FAQs
Raynaud
At David Shuttle we are an official supplier of Raynaud and we are delighted to offer you the timeless collections of French porcelain tableware services from Raynaud House. Innovative designs and high quality porcelain are some of the key factors that differentiate Raynaud Limoges from all other porcelain brands.
History of Raynaud
Raynaud porcelain has a rich history deeply embedded in the tradition of Limoges, France's porcelain capital. Founded in 1919 by Martial Raynaud, the company has evolved over three family generations into a renowned fixture in the world of fine porcelain.
Martial Raynaud, a seasoned traveller, drew inspiration from his global experiences when establishing the House of Raynaud. His successor, André Raynaud, elevated the manufacturer's standards, drawing from his passion for antique china and collaborating with esteemed artists like Jean Cocteau and Salvador Dali.
In 1992, Bertrand Raynaud took the helm of the family business, forging partnerships with renowned figures such as interior designer Alberto Pinto and florist Christian Tortu. Under his leadership, Raynaud ventured into the culinary world, collaborating with Michelin-starred chefs like Thomas Keller.
A significant influence on Raynaud's artistic direction came from Bertrand's wife, Mariela Schwarz Montiel, whose background in fashion design lent a unique perspective to the brand. Her inaugural collection, Trésor, introduced in 2012, quickly became a bestseller, showcasing her penchant for innovative designs.
Limoges' rich tradition of porcelain craftsmanship is evident in Raynaud's commitment to excellence. The region's exceptional china clay, known as kaolinite, imparts a unique whiteness to Limoges porcelain. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, Raynaud's porcelain undergoes multiple stages of shaping, glazing and firing, resulting in delicate yet resilient dinnerware.
Raynaud's intricate decorations, including chromolithography and hand-painting, demonstrate the company's dedication to precision and artistry. The use of precious metals in some collections adds a touch of luxury, while inlaid work showcases the brand's mastery of a rare technique.
Recognised as one of France's living cultural heritage companies, Raynaud upholds the country's tradition of excellence in craftsmanship. Its designation of origin, "Porcelain from Limoges," guarantees the authenticity and quality of Raynaud's products, all crafted entirely in the Haute-Vienne département.
Raynaud's exquisite dinnerware graces the tables of prestigious restaurants and luxury hotels worldwide, reflecting its commitment to blending form and function. Collections like Cristobal and Paradis epitomise Raynaud's signature style, marrying captivating designs with impeccable craftsmanship.
